Burning the Koran and Building the Ground Zero Mosque: A case of Cherry Picking Constitutional Rights
Funny how what comes around goes around.
When lower Manhattan residents and 911 family members voiced their deep displeasure with plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero, the responsive cry from the mosque planners were, “freedom of religion” and “private property” rights to build whatever they wanted.
And to this day, those that want to build the GZ Mosque still stand on their Constitutional rights even though it may not be the right thing to do because it hurts so many people’s feelings.
But Constitutional rights suppose to trump hurt feelings, as far as the mosque planners are concerned.
So, now comes this tiny church in Florida with barely 50 members who plan to burn the Koran on the anniversary of September 11.
All of a sudden Muslims are outraged and offended. They say the pastor is being provocative.
Where have we heard this before?
That Florida pastor has just as much right to burn the Koran as the Muslin Imam has to the right to build the Ground Zero Mosque.
I think those that are criticizing the Florida pastor are being Anti-Christian and Anti-American for denying the pastors right of free speech and religion.
If Muslims in America are offended by the burning of their sacred book, now they are wearing the shoes of the 911 families and Americans around the country who overwhelmingly disapprove of the Ground Zero Mosque.
How does it feel now when the shoe is on the other foot?
Being American is more than just citing your own rights. You also have to acknowledge the rights of others even when it hurts.
So burn the Koran and build the mosque.
Both sides can either compromise and do the right thing to spare the others pain or get over it and accept the rights of other.
P.S.
As a Christian, I had to endure the selling of pornographic Christmas ornaments.
So Muslims should have an equal opportunity to be offended, otherwise move back to the countries from which you came where women are stoned to death, homosexuals are executed, and freedom and opportunity is as scarce as ice in the desert.
Peace be onto you.
