State lawmakers in Carson City shot down a proposed prostitution tax supported by the Nevada Brothel Association.

The industry, legal in parts of the state, said it wants to help the ailing economy by charging customers a $5 tax on each sex act.

For years, brothels have sought a tax as a way of making their businesses more legitimate.

But making them more legit was exactly the fear of lawmakers who voted against the idea

Joe Lieberman Close to Endorsing Conservative Scott Brown for Senate

It seems that Democrat Joe Lieberman is sticking his finger in the air and noticing the winds of discontent are blowing strong in Massachusetts.

In the bluest of blue states where disgruntled colonists threw boxes of tea into Boston Harbor in 1773 in protest of outrageous taxes imposed by the King of England, that same spirit of patriotism and dissent is welling up in the 2010 special election between Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Scott Brown.




What makes this choice so stunning is that Massachusetts is a Democrat stronghold where registered Democrats out number Republicans 3 to 1. The fact that this race is so close and in one poll Brown has a lead over Coakley tells you one thing.

President Barack Obama’s push to pass a Health Care reform bill that a majority of Americans don’t want has caused the people of Massachusetts to recoil.

Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell recently said that Health Care reform will be a toxic issue for Democrats not only in 2010, but also 2012 as the Democrat party continues to push for a European-style socialized medical care system that has failed everywhere it’s been tried.

As we enter the last 48 hours of the campaign, the people of Massachusetts are getting ready to relive their ancestral past and send a very clear message to Washington and the rest of the world.

Sheldon Silver and the UFT Wants to Murder Charter Schools

The Democrat Party don’t want Charter Schools even if they are better places for children to learn. They prefer the status quo of failing schools, bad teachers and rising teachers' salaries than what's best for the kids.

Looks like Albany pols are mounting yet another push to slow New York's charter-school revolution -- while they still can.

The latest scheme comes from Assembly Education Committee Chairwoman Catherine Nolan (D-Queens), who last week introduced a bill that would give the state Board of Regents veto power over school charters granted by the SUNY system.

That's no small matter. SUNY has chartered 64 schools since 1999, according to the New York Charter Schools Association -- including 43 in the city. Yet in their current advisory role, the Regents have opposed two-thirds of the schools SUNY sought to charter since 2007.

No surprise there: The Regents owe their jobs to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who's a lockstep ally of the charter-fearing teachers lobby.

It's no coincidence, moreover, that this fresh attack on charters comes just as they're succeeding beyond anyone's expectations.

State test numbers released last week showed 77.4 percent of third- through eighth-graders in city charters proficient in English -- compared to 68.8 percent in traditional public schools.

Yet the most striking measure of charters' success is the record number of students trying to get through the door.

In central Harlem's School District 5, for instance, parents of fully 548 kindergarten students entered a lottery last month for entrance into just one Harlem Success Academy charter school -- up from 413 last year.

A further 200-plus kindergartners are enrolled in the district's Harlem Children's Zone charters.

Those might not seem like massive numbers -- until one realizes that District 5 has only 800 kindergarten seats in all its traditional public schools.

That is to say, charters are now such a proven success that nearly the entire neighborhood wants in.

No wonder Silver, Nolan & Co. are so eager to stop them: Charters -- which typically function without burdensome union rules -- are clearly a dire threat to teachers-union dominance.

Pity about the kids, though.

WHY THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION HAS THE IRAN PROBLEM BACKWARDS


"The task of forming an international coalition to thwart Iran's nuclear program will be made easier if progress is made in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has said, according to sources in Washington. Israeli TV stations had reported Monday night that Emanuel had actually linked the two matters, saying that the efforts to stop Iran hinged on peace talks with the Palestinians." - Jerusalem Post, May 4

Rahm Emanuel is a good man and a good friend of Israel, but in a highly publicized recent statement he linked American efforts to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons to Israeli efforts toward establishing a Palestinian state. This is dangerous.

I have long favored the two-state solution, as do most Israelis and American supporters of Israel. I have also long opposed civilian settlements deep into the West Bank. I hope that Israel does make efforts, as it has in the past, to establish a Palestinian state as part of an overall peace between the Jewish state and its Arab and Muslim neighbors.

Israel in 2000-2001 offered the Palestinians a state in the entire Gaza Strip and more than 95% of the West Bank, with its capital in Jerusalem and a $35 billion compensation package for the refugees. Yassir Arafat rejected the offer and instead began the second intifada in which nearly 5,000 people were killed. I hope that Israel once again offers the Palestinians a contiguous, economically-viable, politically independent state, in exchange for a real peace, with security, without terrorism and without any claim to "return" 4 million alleged refugees as a way of destroying Israel by demography rather than violence.

But the threat from a nuclear Iran is existential and immediate for Israel. It also poses dangers to the entire region, as well as to the US - not only from the possibility that a nation directed by suicidal leaders would order a nuclear attack on Israel or its allies, but from the likelihood that nuclear material could end up in the hands of Hezbollah, Hamas or even Al Qaeda. Recall what Hashemi Rifsanjani said to an American journalist:

[Rifsanjani] "boast[ed] that an Iranian [nuclear] attack would kill as many as five million Jews. Rafsanjani estimated that even if Israel retaliated by dropping its own nuclear bombs, Iran would probably lose only fifteen million people, which he said would be a small 'sacrifice' from among the billion Muslims in the world."

Israel has the right, indeed the obligation, to take this threat seriously and to consider it as a first priority. It will be far easier for Israel to make peace with the Palestinians if it did not have to worry about the threat of a nuclear attack or a dirty bomb. It will also be easier for Israel to end its occupation of the West Bank if Iran were not arming and inciting Hamas, Hezbollah and other enemies of Israel to terrorize Israel with rockets and suicide bombers.

In this respect, Emanuel has it exactly backwards: if there is any linkage, it goes the other way - defanging Iran will promote the end of the occupation and the two-state solution. Threatening not to help Israel in relation to Iran unless it moves toward a two-state solution first is likely to backfire.

After all, Israel is a democracy and in the end the people decide. A recent poll published in Haaretz concluded that 66% of Israelis favored a preemptive military strike against Iran's nuclear facilities, with 75% of those saying they would still favor such a strike even if the US were opposed.

Israel's new government will accept a two-state solution if they are persuaded that it will really be a solution - that it will assure peace and an end to terrorist and nuclear threats to Israeli citizens. I have known Prime Minister Netanyhu for 35 years and I recently had occasion to spend some time with Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. I am convinced that despite their occasional tough talk, both want to see an end to this conflict.

Israelis have been scarred by what happened in Gaza. Israel ended the occupation, removed all of the settlers, and left behind millions of dollars worth of agricultural and other facilities designed to make the Gaza into an economically-viable democracy. Land for peace is what they sought. Instead they got land for rocket attacks against their children, their women and their elderly. No one wants to see a repeat of this trade-off.

Emanuel's statements were viewed with alarm in Israel because most Israelis, though they want to like President Obama, are nervous about his policies toward Israel. They are prepared to accept pressure regarding the settlements, but they worry that the Obama Administration may be ready to compromise, or at least threaten to compromise, Israel's security, if its newly elected government does not submit to pressure on the settlements.

Making peace with the Palestinians will be extremely complicated. It will take time. It may or may not succeed in the end, depending on whether the Palestinians will continue to want their own state less than they want to see the end of the Jewish state. Israel should not be held hostage to the Iranian nuclear threat by the difficulty of making peace with the Palestinians. Israel may be rebuffed again, especially if Palestinian radicals believe that such a rebuff will soften American action against Iran. In the meantime, Iran will continue in its efforts to develop nuclear weapons.

That cannot be allowed to happen, regardless of progress on the ground toward peace with the Palestinians. These two issues must be delinked if either is to succeed. There are other ways of encouraging Israel to make peace with the Palestinians. Nuclear blackmail is not one of them.

Obama's War on Capitalism

AMERICAN capitalism is a house divided.

On one side are those corporations and financial firms dependent on government support, and thus eager to obey the diktat of their political minders. They are part of Obama, Inc., a vast public-private entity pursuing a vision of a greener, more constrained and politicized capitalism.

On the other are those firms that aren't on a government lifeline and thus can pursue the traditional capitalist imperative of maximizing value for their shareholders and investors. They constitute the liberated economy, but can be forgiven for sometimes feeling as embattled as the forces of the Free French circa 1941.

Consider the self-described "Committee of Non-Tarp Lenders" in the Chrysler bankruptcy negotiations. They are those creditors that loaned funds to Chrysler -- the government-supported automaker -- without themselves taking government bailout funds like Chrysler's other, much larger lenders.

When the Obama administration came to Chrysler's creditors and told them to accept a deal giving the United Auto Workers 55 percent of the company while they took a bath, all the banks that had accepted TARP funds duly said "yes."

Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, which wouldn't exist but for the generosity of Hank Paulson and Timothy Geithner, knew they were expected to salute smartly. The smaller, non-TARP lenders -- mostly hedge funds -- stood by their contractual rights as "senior creditors" to be paid back first if Chrysler went under.

Wrong answer. A lawyer for the non-TARP creditors says that during negotiations, the leader of Obama's auto task force threatened one of the lenders with exposure and attack by the White House press corps. The administration denies the story, although the gist rings true.

When negotiations fell through and Chrysler headed to bankruptcy court, Obama angrily denounced the non-TARP lenders: "I don't stand with them." Michigan Rep. John Dingell called them "rogue hedge funds" and "vultures."

The real vulture is the UAW. In a neat trick that any scavenging bird would envy, it bankrupted Chrysler through the years and now will be awarded whatever is left of the carcass. Providing ground troops for the president's election and giving his political party $25 million during the past decades makes the UAW effectively the senior creditor at every government-sponsored negotiation. It will own a company making government-approved environmentally correct cars.

The offense of the hedge funds was only to lend Chrysler the money it wanted to try to keep itself afloat and then insist their contracts be honored. Such is the roguish, out-of-control behavior of firms that haven't sucked up billions in taxpayer funds to cover over their massive business miscalculations. The number of holdout non-TARP lenders dwindled from 20 to nine as the date for their public revelation -- and yet more presidentially approved obloquy -- neared. Intimidation works.

Democrats pride themselves on their independence from business, but industrial policy depends on working hand in glove with industry. The more government regulates, subsidizes and intervenes, the more subject it is to capture by economic interests and vice versa.

Is it a coincidence that two of the actors that have arguably benefited most from government activism in the past year -- the auto unions and Goldman Sachs -- are extremely well-connected players in Washington?

The just-released stress tests of the banks present an opportunity. The tests draw a line between healthy and still-rickety financial institutions. The healthy ones should be urged -- no, required -- to give back their TARP funds as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, a mechanism should be created to seize and unwind those shakier institutions that can't raise the necessary new capital on their own.

It's not last fall, when it seemed another collapse of a major financial institution might take the financial system with it. If bankruptcy is good enough for Chrysler, it should be good enough for Citigroup.

The alternative is for the marginal banks to stumble along as government-supported zombies and as slush funds for crony capitalism. Let them go, and instead increase the ranks of the liberated economy.

Rupert Murdoch Donates $5.5M to Harlem Charter School

Showing that Conservatives are willing to put their money where their mouth is, one of the city's most successful charter schools got a big boost last night toward building a new home.

At a star-studded benefit concert at the Apollo Theater, News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch -- owner of the New York Post -- made a surprise, $5.5 million donation to the Harlem Village Academy, a high-performing school serving grades 5 through 10.

Deborah Kenny, CEO of a network of college preparatory schools that includes Harlem Village, said the money would go a long way toward securing a high-school building for the academy.

"We were overjoyed for the children in Harlem, who are going to have a high-quality high school for this community," said Kenny, who added that Murdoch has "been passionate about education for a very long time."

"The children deserve this," she added.

Charter schools receive no funding for construction, which has forced dozens of them to spend operational funds, which otherwise would be used to educate kids, on leasing or constructing classroom space.

The fund-raising benefit gala was hosted by actor Hugh Jackman -- who emceed the Oscars award show earlier this year -- and featured performances by R&B stars John Legend and Patti LaBelle.

Murdoch, who was introduced onstage by former New York Giant running back and Harlem Village Academy board member Tiki Barber, pitched $500,000 of the donation as a challenge grant to help encourage additional contributions.

"They're setting higher standards for schools in the whole community," Murdoch said of the academy. "I just wish we had more facilities."

The shocked officers said they simply wanted to show the children -- ages 8 to 14 -- the equipment used to control disobedient jailbirds.

Liberal Teacher’s Union Hate Charter Schools

Question: What is one of the most important obligations parents have towards their children?

Answer: To provide them the best education possible.

But what happens if your neighborhood school is a joke? Do you think most parents would want to send the kids there anyway?

Of course not.

They would look for the best school possible for their children to give them the most opportunity in life. It’s as simple as that.

One of the options available to parents is a Charter School. Charter schools are elementary or secondary schools in the United States that receive public money but have been freed from some of the rules, regulations, and statutes that apply to other public schools in exchange for some type of accountability for producing certain results, which are set forth in each school'scharter.

Thses schools work!

But, there are groups out there, namely the Teacher’s Union that don’t want your children to go to these schools. The UFT (United Federation of Teachers) led by Rabdi Weingarten, care more about the intersts of their union membership than providing better education for your children.

For example in New York state, a new state proposal would give the Board of Regents veto power over SUNY's approval of charter schools -- a move critics say will slam the brakes on the spread of charter schools statewide.
State Assembly Education Committee Chairwoman Catherine Nolan (D-Queens) -- who followed state Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer's lead in introducing the measure -- said it was simply intended to streamline the charter approval process.

Currently, the state Board of Regents, SUNY, and the city's Department of Education can authorize new charter schools -- although the DOE requires secondary approval from the Board of Regents.

"This is all about weakening charter schools and it's about having fewer of them," Peter Murphy of the New York Charter Schools Association said. "There's no educational or child-centered reason to advance a bill like that."
He added that the proposal shows a growing divide between the Board of Regents -- which has advocated for a diverse curriculum at schools -- and SUNY, which is open to schools that emphasize math and English as a means of targeting kids who are far behind.

Between 1999 and 2007, the Regents supported about 75 percent of SUNY charter approvals.

Since June 2007, however, the Regents supported less than one-third of SUNY charter approvals, according to a SUNY memos.

The memo to state legislators notes that 76 percent of SUNY-authorized charter schools outperform their local district averages in reading, while 92 percent do so in math.

New York is controlled by Democrats. These are the people that want to keep your kids trapped in failing schools because they receive millions of dollars of campaign contributions from the UFT.

So when a teacher says, “It’s about the children..”

You know better.

Georgia woman was nabbed after she had two men threaten another man into having sex with her.

The victim initially rebuffed Edie Jean Wells' offer of sex for money, but then did have relations with her after her accomplices went inside his home and threatened him, cops said.

The trio then swiped an ATM card from him, and held him captive for several hours before his paycheck cleared and they were able to withdraw cash from his account.

Allegedly nude pics of Carrie Prejean, Miss California, taken when she was 17 yrs old have suddenly been discovered. This is typical on how the Left treats Conservatives for speaking out and exercising their 1st amendment rights of free speech.

And for what?

All because Miss Prejean gave her opinion on an issue and they didn’t like the answer. So now they have to deconstruct Prejean by making her appear to be living a life that doesn’t match her rhetoric. What the Left never seams to understand or care to acknowledge is that we Conservatives never claim to be perfect, or even strive for perfection. In reality, the opposite is true. We Conservatives of faith are as imperfect as imperfect can be. We gladly acknowledge our failings which is why we desperately need a Savior (Christ) and we are covered by his blood for all the sins we ever committed or ever commit in the future. Of course, when you try to explain that to the Left, they look at you like you have two heads.

As a Conservative, I STILL and will continue to stand with Carrie Prejean despite these alleged photos or anything else she may have done in the past because the penalty for sins have been paid for once and for all by Christ.
